The keynote speaker for EMHFC 2027 is confirmed to be Professor Merel Kindt.

The Monday workshop for EMHFC will be given by Dr. Ondřej Zíka

Title:
From fear of modelling to modelling of fear: Introduction to computational modelling in the context of fear conditioning
Outline:
Understanding psychological and neuroscientific data using computational modelling yields the potential to uncover increasingly nuanced mechanisms behind direct observations. This is particularly relevant for the field of fear conditioning, where a variety of sources, ranging from desired conditioning & learning effects to perhaps less desired physiological noise or habituation effects, often mix into a single time-series signal.
This workshop will first cover the basic theory of computational cognitive modelling, from model specification, to selection of likelihoods and model comparison, to essentials of quality assurance practices such as parameter or model recovery. Next, it will focus on specific challenges in applying computational modelling to fear conditioning data including expectancy ratings or skin conductance signals. Finally, the workshop will conclude with a short hands-on practical to develop hands-on experience with modelling.
The workshop is aimed at researchers with little to no previous experience in computational modelling. It is meant to be particularly useful for those designing a new study or who would like to apply computational modelling to existing data.
Workshop Timeline:
10:00 – 10:50 Modelling theory
11:00 – 11:50 Designing and modelling fear conditioning studies
12:00 – 12:50 Practical (no setup required, all online)
